Welcome to the UN Plaza outreach guide. Before you begin reading about this outreach, we’d like to make sure you know what you need to about San Francisco’s inner city by visiting the Backstory Page.
What is it?
The UN Plaza is a unique outreach to bring uplifting worship and hope and a full plate of food to the people in the inner city. Think Street Cafe and Mobile Worship combined. It is a place where one of our guests from the community can sit down, and receive and be fed not only physically but spiritually as well.
People in this community are not only hungry, but hunger for a need that goes deeper than the physical. The desire to be known and loved is something that many of the homeless and residents carry with them. Longing to fill it, there's a tendency to lean towards drugs use, alcohol abuse, unhealthy relationships, and destructive behaviors but these paths lead to a more destitute condition. Love and presence of God is what is needed to fill and heal broken hearts, and you can bring it to someone!
If you become a part of the Un Plaza Outreach team, you will report to the UN Plaza at 1150 Market St where one of our City Impact leaders will brief you on all that you will need to know for the day. You help in one of these areas: preparing the UN Plaza layout, welcoming and seating guests, mandarin and cantonese translation, serving food and beverages, and listening to and opening your life to our guests.
Beyond the food that will nourish the bodies of our guests, the music that will uplift their spirits, your words and care can bring life and healing. As it was mentioned, people are desperate for love and belonging and you can be God’s delivery person for those very things. Your time and attention will do much good and we believe that your life will be changed as well.
