Welcome to the Street Cafe outreach guide. Before you begin reading about this outreach, we’d like to make sure you know what you need to about San Francisco’s inner city by visiting the Backstory Page.
What is it?
The Street Cafe is a part of our Block Party and will be located on the 100 Block of Jones St. It is a place where one of our guests from the community can have a sit down meal with volunteers like you!
People in this community are hungry, in fact, starving. Not just for physical food—this hunger goes deeper than the physical. The desire to be known and loved is something that many of the homeless and residents carry with them. Longing to fill it, there's a tendency to lean towards drugs use, alcohol abuse, unhealthy relationships, and destructive behaviors but these paths lead to a more destitute condition. Love and presence of God is what is needed to fill and heal broken hearts, and you can bring it to someone!
If you become a part of the Street Cafe team, you will report to the 100 block of Jones where one of our City Impact leaders will brief you on all that you will need to know for the day. You help in one or more of these areas: preparing the Street Cafe area, welcoming and seating guests, serving food and beverages, and (most importantly) spending time conversing and opening your life to our guests.
Beyond the food that will nourish the bodies of our guests, your words and care can bring life and healing. As it was mentioned, people are desperate for love and belonging and you can be God’s delivery person for those very things. Your time and attention will do much good and we believe that your life will be changed as well.
