Welcome to the Photobooth team outreach guide. Before you begin reading about this outreach, we’d like to make sure you know what you need to about San Francisco’s inner city by visiting the Backstory Page.
What is it?
The Photobooth area is a section within our Beauty Area in which people who have gotten their haircut and/or makeover can get their photos taken.
For many in the Tenderloin, dignity and self-worth have been stolen through trauma, desperation, and the labels of “being needy” or “in poverty”. This problem leaves women especially vulnerable to being taken advantage of through dangerous and unhealthy relationships. This cycle is perpetuated because of the voices that that they hear from others that reinforce the low self-value that is already there. We believe that we can show both men and women the beauty and value that God has created them with.
After the morning session, you will report to the Beauty Area where one of our City Impact leaders will brief you on the day. You will then be assigned to a specific role depending on your skills and preferences which include: shooting photos, printing photos, assisting photographers, etc.
Most people in this community would never think of getting their portrait taken. The memory of having family photos at a department store or headshots for a career may either be distant and detached or nonexistent. Most can agree that it’s a joy to get professional photos of yourself and loved ones taken and we want to share this joy with the community. Beyond the photos, the opportunity to restore someone’s dignity is something we don’t take for granted. We believe that your kindness and courtesy will win the trust and friendship of the people that you serve and that the photos will be a mere bonus.
