Welcome to the Meal Prep team outreach guide. Before you begin reading about this outreach, we’d like to make sure you know what you need to about San Francisco’s inner city by visiting the Backstory Page.
What is it?
Our Meal Prep teams help to assemble meals into to-go boxes for our meal delivery teams. The food is cooked in our kitchen and are distributed to the three different meal Prep sites where about 8,000 meals are produced, total.
There is essentially one thing being delivered to the community: the love of Christ. The ways in which this is done is through conversations, prayer, meeting needs, and the food that that is delivered. Over 2,000 team members at City Impact Conference work in harmony to help witness to one hurting person. The role of the meal prep team is to produce the cleanest, most presentable meal made with love to support the delivery of the food and love to the one hurting person.
Once the morning session is over, you will report to your specific site (230 Jones, 302 Eddy, or 140 Turk). As you arrive you will be briefed on the details of the day by a City Impact representative. After the briefing, you can expect to help in one of these areas:
Assembly Line: in charge of placing a portion of the meal into the delivery container.
Kitchen Runner: in charge of taking food from the 230 Jones Kitchen and running empty trays back. Also in charge of sporadic needs such as utensils that need to be washed, etc.
Bread/Fruit: in charge of cutting bread or fruit that will be placed in the assembly line
Box Runner: in charge of placing meal containers into delivery boxes and setting them in an organized manner for delivery teams.
In our 32 years in this community, we’ve come to understand that food in a love language for many of the people that we encounter and delivering it to their door is a great vehicle to help us to get to build a relationship and start meaningful conversations. At the Conference, each meal made with love can help us witness to a hurting person.
