Welcome to the Grocery Pantry outreach guide. Before you begin reading about this outreach, we’d like to make sure you know what you need to about San Francisco’s inner city by visiting the Backstory Page.

What is it?

The Grocery Pantry is a part of our Block Party and will be located on the 100 Block of Jones St. It is a place where one of our guests from the community can get a bag of groceries from the food bank.

The Need

With the 37,000 people who live within the one square mile of the Tenderloin, you could count the amount of grocery stores on one hand. What that means for the community, which is primarily composed of people who have around $10 a day to spend on their living expenses, is that nutrition and regular meals are not a priority. Fast food and whatever can be found at a local liquor store become the consistent diet of many and the results of this lifestyle are evident in the malnutrition, high rate of chronic disease and death, and the overall physical suffering that you will not have to go too far to notice.

The Method

If you become a part of the Grocery Pantry team, you will report to the 100 block of Jones where one of our City Impact leaders will brief you on all that you will need to know for the day. You help to prepare the pantry area, assemble the grocery bags, and distribute them to the guests that would like one. In that time, we encourage you to start conversations with those who are willing to stop and talk, who knows whose heart God can open!

The Impact

A simple grocery bag goes a long way in a hungry household and your effort in this will help us to ensure that our guests receive the groceries in an orderly and cheerful manner. People will remember the time when the Church was able to help them meet their need, and you get to be a part of that!
